Bengaluru-based Mount Carmel College (Autonomous) has been accorded Deemed-to-be University status by the Ministry of Education, the institution announced on Thursday.
Addressing the media on the development, principal George Lekha said that the college has acquired 200 acres of land near Devanahalli.
“The courses will be expanded, with the institution offering short-term, medium-term, and long-term programmes. The new facility is expected to be a residential campus,” she said.
Ms. Lekha confirmed that the institution would also continue to offer programmes on the Vasanth Nagar campus and assured that there would be no disruption for the current batch. She added that discussions regarding credit transfers and other academic matters are ongoing.
The college would also hold a meeting with parents in this regard on June 27, she said.
The development comes two years after the college opened all its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to boys in 2024, ending its over 70-year run as an all-girls institution. It currently offers 54 undergraduate programmes, 18 postgraduate programmes, and 11 doctoral programmes.
