The Kanniyakumari and Tirunelveli districts have bagged the third and the fourth ranks respectively in the pass percentage of Plus Two examination results.
Of the 19,652 students, including 8,697 boys and 10,955 girls, appeared for the examination from 187 higher secondary schools in the district, 19,168 students, including 8,382 boys (96.38%) and 10,786 girls (98.46%), have passed in the public examination held in March last. Consequently, the district, which stood 16th in Tamil Nadu in the pass percentage last year, moved up to 4th rank this year, thanks to the sustained special efforts taken by Chief Educational Officer M. Sivakumar and his team.
“We identified the slow learners in each class based on the marks they scored in each test and adopted specially designed home-grown pedagogical techniques to improve their understanding of lessons, learning and recalling and presenting it in the examination. These special measures made them understand even difficult chapters easily, retain it for longer duration and score marks in the public examination,” said Mr. Sivakumar, who introduced this system in every class of government and the government-aided schools.
The statistics justify the strategy implemented by the CEO as the pass percentage in the government schools has increased from last year’s 92.57% to 96.02% this year. “The pass percentage of the boys in the government schools stood at 87.37% last year, which has increased to 92.91% this year. And, the pass percentage of government schools girl students has increased from 92.57 to 97.83 this year,” said a beaming Mr. Sivakumar.
Moreover, the number of government schools that recorded cent per cent pass has also increased from last year’s 4 to 5 this year.
District Collector R. Sukumar congratulated Mr. Sivakumar and the teachers for this feat.
“The efforts taken by the CEO and his team are really laudable as their special efforts has resulted in producing excellent results this year. Having designed a proven strategy for improving the students’ learning capacity and achieving good results, the teachers should take this to the next level,” Dr. Sukumar said.
Kanniyakumari district has got the third rank in the State in the Plus Two pass percentage. Of the 21,539 students who wrote the examination, 21,028 students including 9,780 boys and 11,248 girls have passed to record the pass percentage of 97.63. A total of 120 schools have got cent per cent results.
Thoothukudi district has recorded the pass percentage of 97.24 to move from last year’s ranking of 9 to 6 this year. Of the 19.095 students who took the examination, 18,568 students including 8,070 boys (95.53%) and 10,498 girls (98.60%) have passed.
A total of 15,322 students, including 7,085 boys and 8,237 girls, have passed in Tenkasi district to get the pass percentage of 97.18. The district stands 8th in the State in the pass percentage. Seventy-four higher secondary schools including 16 government institutions have recorded cent per cent result.
