The management of Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) has initiated measures to ensure uninterrupted coal production during the rainy season to maintain adequate coal supply to thermal power stations.
Chairman and Managing Director of SCCL Buddhaprakash Jyoti held a meeting here on Saturday, during which the General Managers explained that nearly 95% of Singareni’s coal production was now being contributed by the opencast mines. However, accumulation of water during heavy rains would hamper production in the opencast mines.
To address the problem, Singareni has already installed more than 100 heavy-duty pumps and motors across all opencast mines to dewater them and maintain production operations. The CMD instructed the GMs to arrange additional pumps wherever necessary. The CMD reviewed mine-wise proposals and preparedness related to monsoon management.
In view of the increased power demand arising out of international developments, the CMD stressed that all area managements should take adequate measures to ensure uninterrupted coal supply to thermal power plants having Fuel Supply Agreements (FSAs) with Singareni.
The CMD asked the officials to achieve maximum possible coal production before the onset of monsoon as higher production during the first quarter would significantly help offset the impact of rains on production during the monsoon season. Directors of the company L.V. Suryanarayana (Operations), K. Venkateshwarlu (Projects & Planning), Gowtham Potru (Personnel & Finance) and M. Tirumala Rao (E&M), ED (Coal Movement) B. Venkanna, GM (Coordination & Marketing) T. Srinivas and others participated.
