The Mayiladuthurai district police have booked 481 cases against those involved in smuggling and illegal sale of ganja and banned tobacco substances in the district so far this year. The number of those arrested who were involved in such cases were 487.
Around 1,144 kg of banned tobacco substances and around 10 kg of ganja have been seized from the accused. The police teams also confiscated a couple of two-wheelers and three four-wheelers used by the accused in the smuggling and illegal sale of the contraband.
Two accused who were repeatedly involved in illegal sale of ganja were detained under the Goondas Act. The movements of those indulging in anti-social activities were being monitored closely and action as per law would be initiated against those indulging in illegal sale of ganja and banned tobacco substances.
