Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL), in preparation for the upcoming monsoon, has been undertaking preventive measures and thorough pre-monsoon track inspections to ensure the safety and reliability of train operations during the rainy season.
A series of essential engineering works is under way as part of ongoing infrastructure upgrades. These include cutting lowering, ballastless track (BLT) repairs, track lifting, deep screening, through-track renewal, Plaser’s Quick Relaying System (PQRS) maintenance, etc. Such activities are critical to maintaining the structural integrity of the tracks and ensuring passenger safety and comfort.

KRCL, in a release here, said train speeds are temporarily reduced at certain sections, and occasional blocks may cause minor delays and detention of trains while safely carrying out these works. It has assured passengers that these measures are temporary and necessary for long-term operational reliability. Most pre-monsoon and maintenance activities are expected to be completed by the end of May, after which train punctuality is expected to improve significantly.

Optimised scheduling and constant vigilance ensure minimal delays even on a high-traffic single-line system. The corporation continues to prioritise passenger safety while striving to maintain train punctuality along its scenic but challenging western coastal route. Operating on a single-line railway system with high line-capacity utilisation, the route demands meticulous operational management to ensure smooth train movements, it added.
The Konkan Railway passes through regions of complex terrain and is prone to heavy rainfall in several stretches, it noted.
