A 43-year-old TVK cadre, attempted to end his life recently, following the delay in the party chief C. Joseph Vijay assuming office as Chief Minister, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday.
As the TVK struggled to get the support of 118 MLAs after winning 108 seats on its own in the April 23 Assembly elections, Mr. Vijay’s assuming office as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu got delayed since the two-year-old party was scouting for support from other smaller outfits.
Upset over the delay, the party’s joint organiser of Tirunelveli south district cadre’s wing V. Esakkiappan, 43, of Puthumanai Chettikulam near Koodankulam in the district immolated himself on May 9. With serious burns, he was admitted to the Kanniyakumari District Government Medical College Hospital at Aasaripallam for treatment. However, he succumbed to his burns on Tuesday.
Pazhavoor police, who have registered a case in this connection, said Esakkiappan was in an inebriated condition when he attempted to end his life.
