A contractor filed a complaint with the district administration, backed by evidence, alleging that the Karaikudi Corporation has paid ₹15.80 lakh for work that was never executed.
Pandi, a contractor with the Karaikudi Corporation in the Sivaganga district, on February 21, 2025, secured a contract worth ₹18 lakh through a tender process to undertake renovation work on the Mayor’s room, Deputy Mayor’s room, and the conference hall.
However, officials reportedly did not permit Pandi to execute the work.
It is alleged that the work was instead completed by another contractor. Under these circumstances, claiming that the project had been completed, the corporation administration issued a cheque worth ₹15.80 lakh to contractor Mr. Pandi, after deducting the security deposit.
Following this, Mr. Pandi filed a complaint stating that the corporation administration had paid him for work he did not perform.
Speaking to press, he said, “Along with the ₹18 lakh renovation work for the Mayor’s room, Deputy Mayor’s room, and conference hall, I had taken up contracts for two other projects. However, I was stopped from executing only this ₹18 lakh project.”
They executed that work through a contractor close to the DMK.
Now, they have issued the cheque in the name of their firm and are asking us to withdraw the money and give it to them, Mr. Pandi alleged.
“Because I am refusing to do so, officials are refusing to release the funds due for my other two projects. They have engaged in malpractice by getting the work I secured done through someone else. Similarly, various irregularities have taken place in the corporation over the last three years,” he demanded.
A proper investigation should be conducted into this, and action must be taken against the concerned officials and DMK members, he said.
When asked about this, Corporation Commissioner said, “We released the funds because the contract work was completed. If the contractor in question did not execute the work, he can return the money to the corporation administration.”
