The Electricity Department has suspended V. Kasi, Chief Financial Officer (Revenue), along with P. Chandrasekaran, Chief Engineer of Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL), on Thursday.
Mr. Kasi, whose name figures in the transformer scam of the erstwhile Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) during 2021-23, has been suspended for interference in the TNGECL administration and other complaints.
According to a press release, the pensionary benefits of the retired TNGECL Director, S. Mangalanathan, has also been suspended.
The suspensions come in the wake of R. Nirmalkumar, Minister for Energy Resources and Law, chairing an inspection meeting at the headquarters of the Electricity Department.
Speaking to mediapersons on Thursday, Mr. Nirmalkumar said that steps needed to be taken for streamlining the tender process to make it transparent, as there were discrepancies in the purchase of transformers during 2021-23.
He said that a 500-kV transformer, which was priced ₹8 lakh, was quoted and purchased for ₹13 lakh.
