Fixing of symbols in the electronic voting machines to be used in the five Assembly constituencies of the district commenced on Thursday.
As more than 15 candidates are in the electoral battle in Tirunelveli, Palayamkottai, Nanguneri and Radhapuram segments, two EVMs are to be used in each booth. Hence, 463 ballot units to Tirunelveli, 355 for Palayamkottai, 418 for Nanguneri and 391 for Radhapuram constituencies have been allotted. Hence, fixing of symbols in the machines started on Thursday.
In all, symbols will be fixed in 1,627 ballot units including 20% reserve units.
Collector R. Sukumar and General Observers Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod and Anubha Shrivastava were present during the fixing of symbols in the EVMs.
“Two technicians from Bharat Electricals Limited have been stationed in each constituency during the fixing of symbols. They will also be in these segments till the end of the polling,” Dr. Sukumar said.
