Tirupati Urban Development Authority (TUDA) has appealed to the Union government to sanction funds liberally for the comprehensive development of the temple city of Tirupati.
At a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs, chaired by MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy here on Friday, TUDA Chairman and Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) ex-officio board member C. Divakar Reddy submitted a representation highlighting Tirupati’s growing infrastructure requirements and the need for scientific management of the increasing pilgrim inflow.
He urged the Centre to earmark a portion of the funds allocated to Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) for TUDA to facilitate trunk infrastructure development required for implementing the statutory master plans.
“TUDA, a self-sustaining organisation that does not receive financial assistance from either the State or the Union governments, has been providing key infrastructure and undertaking various developmental activities in the Tirupati region,” he said, while pointing out that the temple city had missed out on flagship schemes such as PRASAD and HRIDAY in the past.
Mr. Divakar Reddy also sought Central assistance for GIS mapping, establishment of the Tirupati City Economic Region (CER), which could attract an allocation of ₹5,000 crore over five years, and a 25% enhancement in allocations under existing schemes such as PMAY and AMRUT to strengthen urban infrastructure.
Stating that Tirupati receives more than 2.7 crore pilgrims annually, he urged the committee to consider the city for special tourism enhancement and visitor experience improvement initiatives.
