Though coconut is raised on a large scale in the coastal belts of Thanjavur district, tender coconuts have become dearer even to residents of this district.

Wholesale coconut traders have realised that sale of husked coconuts in kilograms instead of per piece helped them realise more money. They have reduced the quantum of coconuts delivered to retailers for sale as tender coconuts considerably and opted to market them as husked/semi-husked coconuts.
