Rapid advances in artificial intelligence are expanding capabilities across understanding, prediction, and creative work, even as concerns around safety, fairness and transparency persist, Manish Gupta, senior director at Google DeepMind, said in Chennai on Sunday.

Mr. Gupta was delivering the Lawrence Dana Pinkham Memorial Lecture at the Asian College of Journalism’s convocation for the class of 2025-2026.  “AI is already enhancing productivity, particularly in software development and media generation. Skilling in AI will soon become essential across professions,” he said.
