The annual inspection of the vehicles owned/hired by the educational institutions in Thanjavur district was carried out on May 15.
A total of 1163 vehicles – 538 in Thanjavur, 365 in Pattukottai, and 260 at Kumbakonam – were checked by the Regional Transport Office personnel on Friday.
Inspecting the exercise at Thanjavur, Collector B. Priyanka Pankajam said that these vehicles would be subjected to spot inspection on roads after the reopening of schools. The defects indicated by the RTO personnel during the inspection should be rectified before the vehicles were pressed into the service transporting the students from their homes to educational institutions and back, she said in an official release.
