The district unit of the BJP staged a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Saturday (May 16), condemning the State government’s decision to withdraw the uniform regulations introduced during the previous BJP rule in educational institutions across the State.

Umesh Jadhav, former MP, said that the policy, introduced by the erstwhile BJP government during the hijab controversy in Karnataka, had required students to adhere to uniforms approved by school and college development committees. BJP leaders have consistently defended the rule, arguing that uniforms help maintain secular values, reduce visible socioeconomic differences among students, and preserve discipline on campuses.

BJP workers accused the State government of attempting to create confusion in educational institutions by reversing the earlier order. Protesters alleged that the withdrawal of the uniform rule could adversely affect discipline and the academic atmosphere in schools and colleges.

The BJP district unit submitted a memorandum addressed to the Governor through the district administration, urging intervention in the matter and demanding that the uniform policy be retained in the interest of maintaining order and equality in educational institutions.

Former Minister Baburao Chavan, BJP spokesperson Sudha Halkai, BJP city president Chandrakant Patil and rural district president Ashok Bagli were present.
