GITAM Deemed to be University will introduce Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) components into its pharmacy curriculum from the 2026-27 academic year, in line with the latest guidelines of the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).
Addressing a press conference in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, principal of the GITAM School of Pharmacy Prof. L. Srinivas said that the initiative was aimed at equipping students to meet the demands of an increasingly data-driven healthcare sector. He said the revised curriculum would include specialised modules focusing on formulation development, molecular modelling and drug safety using Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) tools.
A key feature of the updated Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) syllabus is the introduction of a subject titled “Artificial Intelligence & Python Programming for Pharmacy”, intended to strengthen students’ computational and analytical skills alongside pharmaceutical sciences.
Prof. Srinivas said the university seeks to produce graduates capable of working in technology-enabled healthcare environments. He added that the School of Pharmacy continues to maintain National Board of Accreditation (NBA) status and had consistently figured among the top 35 institutions in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings among nearly 5,000 pharmacy colleges in the country.
Senior faculty member Prof. Annapoorna, Admissions Head Anish Kumar and other university representatives were present.
