Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal has commended the Visakhapatnam Port Authority(VPA) for achieving its highest-ever cargo throughput of 91.17 million metric tonnes (MMTs) during the 2025-26 financial year.
In a letter of appreciation addressed to VPA Chairperson M. Angamuthu, the Minister noted that the port registered a growth of 10.34%, describing the milestone as a reflection of strategic planning, operational efficiency and resilience despite global trade and logistical challenges.
Efficiency benchmarks
Mr. Sonowal praised the efforts of the Chairperson, officers and workforce in improving productivity and turnaround efficiency. He also highlighted the port’s emphasis on digital initiatives and stronger stakeholder coordination to deliver customer-centric services.
Maritime vision
According to the Minister, the achievement is in line with the Union government’s vision of developing future-ready maritime hubs and improving the ease of doing business. He said the VPA’s performance has set a benchmark for other major ports in the country and further strengthened Visakhapatnam’s position as a leading maritime gateway.
