The High Court of Karnataka on Tuesday (May 5, 2026) stayed the investigation into the First Information Report (FIR) registered against BJP’s D.N. Jeevaraj, the newly-declared MLA from Sringeri assembly constituency, for allegedly tampering with postal ballot papers and documents related to counting of votes.
A vacation bench of Justice V. Srisananda passed the interim order on the petition filed by Mr. Jeevaraj, who had challenged the FIR registered by Chikkamagaluru Town Police against him, former Deputy Commissioner K.N. Ramesh, former Returning Officer (RO) Vedamurthy and others on the charge of tampering with postal ballot papers, among other offences. The case was filed on May 3, hours after Mr. Jeevaraj declared winner following the exercise of re-verification and recount of postal ballots.
