Collector V. Mohanachandran on Monday directed officials to inspect TASMAC retail outlets and initiate action against shop employees if the products were sold at a price higher than the rate fixed by the government.
Chairing the weekly meeting of officials from Police, Excise, Health and Food Safety Departments, Swatch Bharat Mission supervisors and executive officers of civic bodies and TASMAC, he directed them to ensure that the product price list was displayed at the retail outlets, which should be shutdown at 10 p.m. every day and reopened by noon the next day.
The officials must also inspect the shops near schools and colleges to check whether banned products were sold there, according to an official release.
