The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) made inroads into the traditional strongholds of the DMK and its allies in the politically important central region of Tamil Nadu. TVK founder C. Joseph Vijay led the charge, registering a comfortable victory in Tiruchi East, while the party candidates either finished on top or ran a close second to the winners in several constituencies.
The DMK-led alliance, which had won 37 of the 41 seats in the region in 2021, could manage only 17 now. The losses suffered by the younger generation Ministers Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and T.R.B. Rajaa, both considered close to the DMK leadership, were the biggest upsets.
