The police have detained two persons in connection with a case in which a 24-year-old worker was found dead under suspicious circumstances at a building site in Maduravoyal on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Silambarasan of Villupuram. He had been staying at the site in Maduravoyal for the past two weeks. The police said Silambarasan’s parents were also employed as construction workers at the same site.
Early on Sunday, Kumaravel, the victim’s father, contacted the police and said his son was lying unconscious. The police recovered the body, which had injuries on the neck, and sent it to the Government Kilpauk Hospital for a post-mortem.
The police questioned Senthamizh, 18, of Kandachipuram. The police said she was in a relationship with Silambarasan, and she initially claimed he had died by suicide. However, the police said her statements contained contradictions. Silambarasan’s parents, who were allegedly inebriated at the time of the incident, did not fully cooperate with the investigation. The police have detained Senthamizh and Manikandan, a mason’s assistant at the site, for further inquiry.
