Congress-led protests here condemned Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar for not inviting Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam leader C. Joseph Vijay to form government. The protesters alleged that the Governor was acting at the behest of the Union government, deliberately hindering the TVK’s bid to form government
Congress activists slammed the Governor for “insulting the people’s mandate” and “for acting against the Constitution”. The protest call was made by Congress State president K. Selvaperunthagai.
On Friday, scores of party activists gathered on the grounds overlooking the Anna statue near new bus stand, and raised slogans against Governor Arlekar, alleging that he had failed the Constitution and was acting as a stooge of the BJP-led Union government.
The protesters said the Governor would incur the people’s wrath if he were to hinder government formation.
