A third-year engineering student from Choutuppal was arrested for sexually assaulting his classmate in Ibrahimpatnam.

The accused was identified as Uday Kumar, 20, a student at a private engineering college in Ibrahimpatnam. According to the police, the accused and the victim had been friends for the past six months.

An official from the Ibrahimpatnam police said that on May 14, the two had planned to go to Dilsukhnagar for dinner at the request of the victim. However, the plan changed and while returning to Ibrahimpatnam, the accused stopped the car and purchased beer and breezers.

When they reached the BDL road area in Ibrahimpatnam, the accused insisted that the woman consume alcohol and forcibly made her drink, police said.

The official stated that the accused initially intended to drop the victim at her hostel, but since the hostel was closed by around 10.45 p.m., he took her to his room in Ibrahimpatnam, where he sexually assaulted her while both were in an intoxicated condition.

Following a complaint lodged by the victim on May 15, the Ibrahimpatnam police registered a case under Section 64 (rape) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The accused was arrested on Monday (May 18) and remanded to judicial custody.
