No fresh Nipah cases were reported in Kerala on Sunday and the lab results of eight more close contacts of the infected person have tested negative for the virus.
Health Minister K. Muraleedharan said in a press release that three more people had been added to the contact list and all were in the lowest-risk category. There are 103 people on the list and 45 of them are health workers. Only four persons are in the highest-risk category, 14 are in the high-risk category, and 85 are in the lowest-risk category.
Mr. Muraleedharan said that the infected person, who continued to be in the intensive care unit of the Government Medical College Hospital here, was administered the first dose of the antiviral drug remdesivir on Sunday (June 14, 2026) morning. He had already been given one dose of monoclonal antibody on June 12. Ribavirin, another antiviral drug, is also being administered to him. All this was based on the protocol of the State government and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), Mr. Muraleedharan said.
The Minister held a review meeting with officials of the Health department, Kozhikode district administration, Kozhikode MCH, and district medical officers from Kozhikode, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad.
Meanwhile, an ICMR team visited an urban health centre in Ramanattukara, the native place of the infected person, and held discussions with the health workers and people’s representatives there. They later went to the infected person’s residential premises. The team also visited various habitations of fruit bats in the municipal limits.
