Tiruchi Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan has said that the change of government will not have any impact on the ongoing infrastructure development schemes in Tiruchi.
Construction of an integrated vegetable market at Panjapur, creation of infrastructure for the supply of 24x7 drinking scheme, establishment of a 100 MLD sewage treatment plant at Panjapur, phaseII, III, and IV of underground drainage projects, biomining of waste dumped at Ariyamangalam dump yard, forming of new road from Panjapur to Karur Bypass along the bund of the Koraiyar and the Kudamurutti river and construction of an overbridge on the Fort Station Road were among the important projects, which are progressing at different levels in the city.
While phase II and III underground drainage projects were started during the previous AIADMK regime, all others were started during the DMK government. K.N. Nehru, MLA of Tiruchi West constituency, who was the Minister for Municipal Administration in the previous government, played a key role in bringing major urban infrastructure projects in Tiruchi.
While Phase II and III UGD projects were almost complete, all other projects are under construction. Construction of 100 MLD sewage treatment plant is progressing at an estimate of ₹233.87 crore. Plan to provide 24x7 drinking water scheme is being carried out at a cost of ₹38.49 crore. A sum of ₹40.85 crore has been allocated for the biomining of Ariyamangalam dump yard. Establishment of an integrated vegetable market is being carried out at a cost of ₹236 crore.
The projects, which were progressing at a rapid pace until the announcement of the State election, moved at a slow pace in March and April because of the election. It appeared that the projects were going slow after the change of government in the State. However, the officials of Tiruchi Corporation hoped that all projects would be implemented as per the schedule.
Mr. Madhubalan told The Hindu that he had been following the progress of all infrastructure development schemes in the city. Funds had been sanctioned for all projects. No projects would be slowed. Instructions were given to the officials to ensure the timely implementation of projects.
