Three persons, including two transgender persons, were arrested for allegedly threatening and robbing a woman after pretending to bless her at a bus stop in Aminjikarai.
The police said the complainant, Samundeeswari, 36, from West Mogappair, was waiting for a bus at the NSK Nagar bus stop in Arumbamkkam on Thursday evening when two transgender persons arrived there in an autorickshaw and asked her for money.
When Samundeeswari opened her purse, one of them allegedly took all the cash from it and, pretending to bless her. They kept ₹500 and returned the remaining money.
When Samundeeswari demanded that her ₹500 be returned, the two allegedly abused her using foul language and threw stones at her. After she raised an alarm, passersby helped apprehend the two transgender persons and the autorickshaw driver who had brought them there. They were later handed over to the Aminjikarai police station.
Based on Samundeeswari’s complaint seeking action against the three persons for robbery and intimidation, police arrested the accused, identified as Vindhiya, 23 and Vanitha, 19, also of Shanthi Colony and Satheesh, 24, an autorickshaw driver from Moolakothalam.
