District Collector and District Election Officer R. Sukumar on Thursday received the torch that traversed all five Assembly constituencies of the district to appeal to voters to cast their votes without fail.
The torch traversed Tirunelveli, Ambasamudram, Palayamkottai, Nanguneri and Radhapuram Assembly constituencies with an appeal to the electorate to exercise their franchise on April 23 to make electoral democracy more vibrant and Dr. Sukumar received it torch at Tirunelveli Junction bus stand on Thursday.
The exercise was also conducted to appeal to parents to protect their children from drug abuse.
A total of 125 volunteers – 25 volunteers for each Assembly segment – carried the torch through the five Assembly constituencies and handed it to the Collector on Thursday. Dr. Sukumar administered the poll pledge to the participants.
