The State government has launched ‘Giri Darshak’, an initiative aimed at training local tribal youth as tourist guides to promote key destinations in Mulugu district, including the proposed Karreguttala Hills (KGH) area. The initiative is part of its 99-day Praja Palana programme. Ten candidates, all from tribal communities in Wazeedu and Venkatapuram mandals, have been selected for the programme.

Mulugu SP Sudhir R. Kekan on Friday inaugurated the training programme and flagged off a Tourism Information Mobile Museum at his office. Addressing the trainees, he urged them to play a proactive role in developing Mulugu as a leading tourism destination in the State. Tourism Officer of combined Warangal M. Shivaji said the Forest and Tourism Departments are planning further initiatives to develop the Karreguttala Hills.

As part of the programme, training sessions were conducted on the historical significance of the region, key tourist attractions and appropriate conduct while interacting with visitors. The sessions also focused on presenting Mulugu’s tribal culture, traditions, local folklore and the natural beauty of the Eturunagaram wildlife sanctuary.

The Tourism Information Mobile Museum, inaugurated on the occasion, displays photographs and details of major tourist attractions across Telangana. Ramappa temple guide G. Vijay Kumar was present.
