U.S. Senate for the first time approves War Powers resolution in rebuke to Trump over Iran conflict

The U.S. Senate for the first time approved a war powers resolution seeking to block U.S. military action against Iran, as lawmakers warily watch President Donald Trump’s efforts to resolve a conflict that the administration launched on its own and now needs Congress to fund. It was the 10th time the Senate has tried to stop the war, and the outcome, on a vote of 50-48, was a stunning turnaround from past efforts

Devastating building fire in Lucknow brings development authority’s actions under scrutiny

Following the devastating fire incident in Aliganj, Lucknow, that killed 15 people, old records and actions taken by the development authority concerning the building have come under scrutiny. The building where the tragic fire broke out had been issued a demolition order in 2016 over unauthorised construction. However, the order was revoked in less than two months. The building, numbered MS/102/D and located in Sector D of the Aliganj Scheme, was originally allotted on July 11, 1980, to Vijay Kumar, son of Rameshwar Sahay, under a hire-purchase scheme through a lottery system.

Wang Yi calls for India, China to accelerate resumption of stalled dialogue mechanisms

China’s Foreign Minister and Politburo member Wang Yi, in talks with National Security Adviser Ajit Doval in New Delhi, called for both sides “to accelerate the resumption of dialogue mechanisms and promote exchanges” in trade, finance, and other fields, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in a statement early. He also called for the two sides “to respect each other’s core interests, properly handle sensitive issues, place the China-India boundary issue in its appropriate position, and prevent it from affecting the overall situation of bilateral relations.”

Telegram access restored after High Court declines to stay blocking order

Access to Telegram resumed after a week-long blocking order imposed ahead of the NEET re-examination expired. The messaging platform had approached the Delhi High Court seeking a stay on the order, but Justice Tejas Karia held that the blocking direction was sufficiently narrow and proportionate. In its blocking order and a related press release, the National Testing Agency (NTA) argued that Telegram’s ability to allow retroactive editing of messages without a visible trace could enable the spread of misinformation claiming that the NEET re-examination paper had been leaked in advance, potentially causing panic among students.

India’s imports ‌of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from the U.S. are set to top 1 million metric tons in June, a record high, industry sources said, as New Delhi turned to costlier suppliers to offset disruption from West Asia. Before the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, India depended on West Asian producers for 90% ‌of its LPG imports, which totalled about 2 million tons per month.

Congress urges Centre not to rush to sign trade pact with the U.S.

The Congress urged the Union government not to be “bamboozled” into signing a trade agreement with the United States, arguing that the proposed deal in its current form was tilted against India’s interests. Mr. Ramesh referred to the India-U.S. joint statement issued on February 6, 2026, in which the U.S. had proposed reduction of tariffs on Indian exportswhile India was expected to substantially lower tariffs on American agricultural and industrial products and increase purchases from the U.S.
