Ending a long-pending issue faced by truck operators, the Yadavagiri Goods Terminal Road was reopened for lorry traffic, providing major relief to transporters.
Mysuru MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar on Wednesday facilitated the reopening of the Yadavagiri Goods Terminal Road, which had reportedly remained closed for several years, forcing lorries to take a detour of nearly five to six kilometres and resulting in additional fuel expenses and operational losses for vehicle owners.
Office-bearers of the lorry owners’ association had met the MP around 10 days ago and submitted a memorandum seeking intervention in the matter.
Following this, the MP visited the spot, held discussions with railway officials and succeeded in getting the railway goods terminal road reopened for traffic.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Wadiyar said the issue was taken up immediately with railway authorities after it was brought to his notice. He added that the officials responded positively and agreed to open the terminal road, which functions like a bypass route.
He said reopening of the road would help each lorry save nearly Rs 10,000 every month and significantly benefit both vehicle owners and drivers.
‘No proposal to shift goods terminal’
Responding to speculation surrounding the Yadavagiri goods terminal, the MP said rumours about shifting the facility were baseless and no such proposal was under consideration by the Railways.
He stated that the goods terminal would continue at the same location and would also be utilised for Vande Bharat train maintenance-related purposes. He urged people not to spread rumours regarding its relocation.
Lorry Owners’ Association president Shahid said transporters had been facing the issue for several years and their earlier appeals to previous MPs had yielded no results. The association approached Mr. Wadiyar only 10 days ago, and the MP swiftly intervened with railway officials to get the terminal road reopened.
Shahid said more than 600 lorries use the route daily and reopening the road would reduce travel distance by several kilometres, leading to substantial savings for transport operators.
Yadavagiri Residents’ Association president S.K. Dinesh, social entrepreneur Nikhilesh, district association president Kodandaram and others were present.
