A newborn boy was found dead in a roadside drain near Basaveshwar Circle at Gadigondgaon village in Hulsoor taluk of Bidar district on Sunday, triggering concern among residents.
According to sources, resident Jaihind Metre noticed the body in the drain and immediately alerted his friends.
He later visited the spot along with village elders and informed the Hulsoor Police Station.
Police personnel arrived at the scene and shifted the body to the Community Health Centre for a post-mortem examination.
Doctors who conducted the examination suspected that the child may have been born prematurely and abandoned in an attempt to conceal the birth.
Jaihind Metre has lodged a complaint with the police, demanding that those responsible for the inhuman act be identified and brought to justice.
A case has been registered at Hulsoor Police Station. Investigation is under way.
