In a move aimed at expanding access to justice, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Guntur, announced the establishment of a special legal aid cell for people who have migrated from India’s northeastern States to the district for education, employment, business, or due to migration-related circumstances.
The initiative is being launched in accordance with the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and the State Legal Services Authority, under the guidance of Guntur District Principal Judge and DLSA Chairman B. Sai Kalyan Chakravarthi, according to a release issued by DLSA Secretary Syed Ziauddin on Tuesday.
The Secretary stated that the special cell would help broaden the reach of legal services and ensure that migrants from northeastern States have access to free legal assistance.
As part of the initiative, advocates and para-legal volunteers familiar with northeastern States and their languages will be appointed to the cell. This will enable migrants to seek legal aid more easily in languages familiar to them, thereby reducing communication barriers, the officials said.
The primary objective of the special cell is to ensure that justice remains accessible to everyone, while also creating awareness among migrant communities about the availability of timely legal support, the release added.
