Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) took to the streets here on Friday to protest the hikes in prices of in petrol, diesel, and cooking gas (LPG) implemented by the Union Government.

The protesters highlighted the recent surge in petrol price by over ₹3.10 and diesel price by ₹3.08. These revision had pushed up the retail price of petrol to ₹103.90 per litre and diesel to ₹96.45 per litre.

The DYFI members also expressed grave concern over the price of LPG cylinder crossing the ₹1,000 mark, stating that these combined hikes had created a ‘cost-of-living crisis,’ threatening the daily survival and the financial stability of the common man and the working class.

The protesters were involved in the symbolic act of rolling car and motorcycle tires along the road to highlight how the skyrocketing fuel costs were forcing vehicles off the road and pushing the mode of transport back by decades.

“The Centre’s policies are directly stripping away the daily earnings of ordinary people. Rolling these tires is a message that if prices do not drop, the common man will be left with no choice but to abandon modern transport,” said Selvaraj, DYFI district president.

The protesters raised slogans against the Centre, demanding an immediate rollback of the price hikes.
