The crime rate in Rajasthan has decreased by 18.77% in the last two years during the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said in Jaipur on Thursday (April 16, 2026). The State government had “zero-tolerance” policy towards corruption as well as a commitment for ensuring crime-free environment, Mr. Sharma said.

Addressing a function marking the 77th Rajasthan Police foundation day at Rajasthan Police Academy, Mr. Sharma said the robust policing in the State had strengthened the sense of trust and security in the society. It had also strengthened the economy and promoted tourism, he added.

“There has been a 25% drop in the murder cases and 47% decrease in robbery, while the crimes against women have come down by nearly 10%,” Mr. Sharma said. He said Rajasthan was among the leading States in the implementation of new criminal laws brought by the Centre.

The Chief Minister affirmed that the police force in the State was working with discipline and commitment to safeguard the citizens. An anti-narcotics task force had been set up, along with a dedicated police station and multiple outposts, while an anti-gangster task force was working to curb organised crime, Mr. Sharma said.

The steps taken by the State government to strengthen the police force included the recruitment of over 8,000 constables and the creation of new police units and stations, Mr. Sharma said. He also laid emphasis on the role of community policing in tackling the emerging challenges, such as cybercrime, drug abuse and organised crime.

Mr. Sharma inspected a ceremonial parade involving multiple police units and presented medals for distinguished service to several police personnel. Director General of Police Rajeev Sharma, senior officials and public representatives were present at the event. (EOM)
