‘VPR Netra’, the flagship initiative of VPR Foundation to promote eye care in rural areas, has so far benefited nearly 60,000 people across three constituencies in SPSR Nellore district.
The mobile eye clinic, equipped with advanced diagnostic facilities and spectacle-making tools, travels to remote villages to provide free eye screening and treatment to people who cannot afford to visit towns or cities for medical care.
Endowments Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy on Saturday inaugurated the third phase of the eye camp at A.S. Peta mandal in Atmakur constituency, in the presence of Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy and Kovur MLA Vemireddy Prashanthi Reddy.
The Minister interacted with beneficiaries and distributed free spectacles. He appreciated the initiative, particularly the delivery of custom-made spectacles within 20 minutes of diagnosis.
The first phase of the camp was held in the remote Udayagiri constituency on November 3 last year, where 47,000 people were screened and 26,000 provided free spectacles.
Recalling the second phase organised in Kovur constituency on April 20 to mark Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s birthday, Ms. Prashanthi Reddy said over 10,000 people in two mandals had benefited.
Mr. Ramanarayana Reddy lauded Mr. Prabhakar Reddy for extending healthcare support through VPR Foundation and appreciated the medical teams for their service.
