Workers in Noida staged protests in April over wage hike and other issues, with violence reported during one such stir on April 13.

Yogesh Meena, a law student from Delhi University, was allegedly detained by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police on Saturday in connection with the Noida workers’ protest in April.

A member of the Disha Students’ Organization and a former presidential candidate in Delhi University Students’ Union election in 2025, Mr. Meena was allegedly detained near Ramjas College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

According to a complaint filed by Sameer Kumar, a student of Ramjas College, with the Gautam Buddha Nagar police, four officers in plain clothes who claimed to be from the U.P. STF told Mr. Meena and Mr. Kumar that a police complaint had been registered against them and they would be taken to the Mukherjee Nagar police station in Delhi. They were first taken to the Mukherjee Nagar police station, then to the Maurice Nagar police station, and then towards Noida border before finally coming back to Maurice Nagar, according to Mr. Kumar’s complaint.

“The car merely stopped at these police stations. Back at Maurice Nagar, I was given a piece of paper mentioning that I have been released,” Mr. Kumar said. The officials from the U.P. STF then took Mr. Meena, who was carrying a smartphone and a tablet, towards Noida again, the complaint stated, adding that his whereabouts remained unknown.

When reached for comment, the Gautam Buddha Nagar Commissioner of Police and Additional Commissioner of Police didn’t respond.

April protests

Workers in Noida staged protests in April over wage hike and other issues, with violence reported during one such stir on April 13. Several individuals were arrested and FIRs registered alleging that “outsiders” and coordinated networks were hijacking the protests.
