After nearly two weeks of intense heat across Andhra Pradesh, temperatures are expected to begin a gradual decline from Sunday (May 31, 2026), according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the A.P. State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA).

However, severe heat conditions are likely to persist on Saturday (May 30, 2026), particularly in Polavaram, Kakinada, Eluru and Krishna districts, where maximum temperatures may reach 45°C to 46°C, the APSDMA said.

On Friday, temperatures above 42°C were recorded in 51 mandals across 10 districts. The highest temperature of 45°C was registered at Kommipadu in SPSR Nellore district. It was followed by 44.6°C at Devarapalli in East Godavari district, 43.9°C each at Bhamini in Parvathipuram Manyam district and Rajam in Vizianagaram district, 43.8°C each at Karedu in SPSR Nellore district and Venkatagiri in Tirupati district, and 43°C at Lakshminarasupeta in Srikakulam district.

In contrast, a few locations in Chittoor, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema, Eluru, West Godavari and Palnadu districts received light rainfall, with precipitation remaining below 14 mm.

Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast isolated heavy rain and thunderstorms over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema on May 30 and 31. Strong winds with gusts of 50-60 kmph are also likely at isolated places across Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema.

Strong winds that swept through Vijayawada and parts of Krishna and Guntur districts on Thursday night caused minor damage. A few electric poles were reportedly uprooted in Vijayawada, leading to power disruptions in some areas. However, district and municipal authorities said the impact was less severe than the damage caused by last week’s weather system.
