In a move to tighten grip on drug peddlers, the Coimbatore City Police will open history sheets against 75 such individuals in the first phase. The police stated that they have collected details of habitual offenders involved in drug trafficking and related anti-social activities, as well as individuals associated with them.
The history sheets will have complete information about each offender, including details about their associates, circle of contacts, places where they were engaged in drug peddling and other related criminal activities. The police will monitor activities of the history-sheeters. Details of family members, friends and other individuals, who act in support of history-sheeters will also be collected, said a release from city police.
According to the police, investigations will be conducted to ascertain assets earned through drug trafficking, investments, movable and immovable properties and bank transactions. Actions will be initiated against the offenders under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, Prevention of Money Laundering Act and other relevant legal provisions based on the findings of the investigations.
Further, preventive detention under the Goondas Act will be made against individuals, who pose a threat to social peace. Externment orders will be issued against individuals, who are continuously involved in drug sales and anti-social activities, instructing them to stay outside Coimbatore City Police limits for a specific period under appropriate sections of the law, the release stated.
The police added that details of individuals addicted to drugs are also being collected. Ten rehabilitation centres functioning in the city have been identified to save such individuals from drug addiction and provide them rehabilitation.
