High drama unfolded at the Kochi airport in the early hours of Monday (May 25, 2026), when a person accused of smuggling 3.50 kilograms of Methaqualone, a synthetic sedative drug, allegedly stabbed himself in the abdomen with a scissor in the Customs arrival area while Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials were completing seizure formalities.
DRI officials detained Satyanarayana Rokkalla, a resident of Andhra Pradesh, along with his friend Arunkumar Pandiri, on their arrival from Bangkok by a Thai Lion flight at 1 a.m. Around 20 pieces resembling soaps were found in two bags in their possession. While the accused claimed they were soaps, officials seized them on suspicion of Methaqualone.
As officials were wrapping up the seizure procedures, Mr. Rokkalla allegedly stabbed himself with the scissors kept in the area. However, officials maintained that the wound was superficial and confirmed that both accused were produced before the court and subsequently remanded.
