The police on Sunday (May 17, 2026) arrested three men on charge of printing counterfeit currency notes at a house in Kurichi housing unit in Coimbatore. The police are on the lookout for a key suspect, who supplied the machine used for printing the fake currency notes.
Acting on a specific information received by Deputy Commissioner of Police G. Karthikeyan regarding the hoarding of synthetic drugs and fake currency, a special police team searched the residence of Saddam Hussain (29), a nursery owner, on Sunday.
During the search, the police seized 184 counterfeit notes of ₹200 denomination, with a total face value of ₹36,800. Additionally, the team recovered commercial quantities of painkiller tablets, methamphetamine, and a currency printing machine from the premises.
Following the search, the police arrested Hussain and his two associates, identified as Faisal (27), an autorickshaw driver in Carmel Nagar, and Farook (38) from Anna Colony at Karumbukkadai.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the printing machinery was procured and supplied by one Kajamaideen alias Hakkim of Karumbukadai. Special teams have been formed to trace the absconding suspect.
