Three juveniles among eight held for armed attack at Nett...
The Hindu Bureau · 2026-05-31 · via The Hindu: Latest News today from India and the World, Breaking news, Top Headlines and Trending News Videos.

Eight persons, including three juveniles, were arrested in connection with the attack on six people at Nettur village in Tenkasi district on Friday.

Police investigations have revealed that the accused were involved in a series of violent incidents across multiple locations in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi district over the past two days.

According to police, a group of around eight members arrived in two-wheelers at Madha Koil Street in Nettur around 6:30 p.m. on Friday, where a wedding feast was being held at a house. Without any apparent provocation, the assailants drew sickles and knives and allegedly assaulted persons in the venue.

In the attack, six persons were injured and identified as Arul Maran, Santoshkumar, Madasamy, Rayappan, Ramesh and Ramkumar, all from Tenkasi district.

Police sources said five of the six injured belonged to Scheduled Caste (SC) communities.

The injured persons were first taken to Alangulam government hospital and later some of them were referred to Tirunelveli Government Medical College and Hospital.

Alangulam police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Police intensified vehicle check across the district and launched a manhunt for the suspects. Subsequently eight persons, including three juveniles were arrested on Saturday.

According to a press statement from Tirunelveli police, the same gang was involved in two other crime incidents on May 28 and 29.

On May 28, the gang allegedly intercepted Manikandan, 29, a SC, of Mannarkoil in Brahmadesam under Ambasamudram police jurisdiction. The gang, it is said, under the influence of alcohol, picked a quarrel with him and attempted to extort money and caused injuries on his left hand finger before fleeing from the spot.

While fleeing after the Nettur attack through Therkupatti village within the limits of Manur police station, a verbal altercation arose between a group of individuals riding a motorcycle at high speed and some persons on the roadside.

Following the argument, the motorcyclists allegedly assaulted two of the individuals identified as Mubarak, 30, and Abdul Rahman, 36, both from Therkupatti, involved in the argument. The victims sustained swell injuries in the attack.

Both the injured persons were admitted to the TGMCH for treatment.

For the above incidents, FIRs have been registered in Ambasamudram, Alangulam and Manur police stations, police said.

In the intensive follow-up action carried out by Tirunelveli and Tenkasi district police, a total of eight accused were arrested, including three juveniles. Further investigation was on.
