A Youth Congress leader was stabbed to death at his house in Dharwad on Friday night. The Hubballi Dharwad Police have questioned six suspects so far in connection with the murder.
The deceased has been identified as Fairoz Khan Pathan, 34, general secretary of the Congress Youth Wing and a resident of Hashmi Nagar in Dharwad. Four persons allegedly stabbed him multiple times, said the police.
The police found Fairoz in a pool of blood and he was immediately rushed to the district hospital, where the doctors declared him brought dead.
Speaking to presspersons on Saturday, Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar said that based on the CCTV camera footage six suspects had been questioned in connection with the murder. Prima facie, it appeared to be an act of vengeance over personal rivalry, but all angles were being looked into, he said, adding that none has been arrested yet.
The prime accused is absconding and the Commissioner has formed a special team to nab all those involved.
Reacting on the development, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi has termed the murder an indication of the deteriorating law and order situation in the State under the Congress rule.
Meanwhile, the victim’s family members have alleged that although the police were informed about the death threat to Fairoz, they neglected it resulting in his murder.
On Friday night, several people gathered before the Dharwad Suburban Police Station demanding that the guilty be brought to book at the earliest. Following assurance by senior officials, they withdrew the protest.
