The designs of Indiramma Houses proposed to be constructed in 24 Assembly constituencies in Hyderabad and surrounding urban areas, should accommodate needs of the next 40 to 50 years, including infrastructure facilities such as drainage, parking and commercial spaces, said Housing and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy.

The State Cabinet on May 23 approved the construction of one lakh Low-Income Group (LIG) houses in the constituencies. Mr. Reddy along with Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Wednesday inspected government lands and dilapidated housing societies in the city limits, to check sites for construction of the houses. 

On Friday , he held a review meeting held in Hyderabad on the proposed houses, gave instructions on the key aspects that should be considered during the design stage, and said that the State government would bring out urban housing policy reflecting its determination to provide houses to all families from poor backgrounds in the urban areas.

After inspecting the designs, he said that if need be, plans should be charted to build 10 floor buildings taking into consideration local needs.

Each Assembly constituency has to be taken as a unit and the houses in the units should be allotted to people from the respective constituency. The Minister said that the government intends to provide the houses not far from the livelihood source of people. 

Each of the designs should ensure that poor families can live happily and with self-respect.. Mr. Reddy suggested that vaastu be given priority while designing dimensions of hall, bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and other spaces in a house.
