A yellow alert has been issued for four districts, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam, on Thursday, warning of isolated heavy rains. According to a weather bulletin issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over the Gulf of Mannar and the neighbourhood at 1.5 km above mean sea level. In addition, the north-south trough/wind discontinuity from cyclonic circulation over the central parts of South Madhya Pradesh to the Gulf of Mannar runs from north interior Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar across Rayalaseema and Tamil Nadu at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
