Three persons were killed in a road accident involving a car and a lorry on Perambalur - Thuraiyur road at T. Kalathur diversion in the district on Monday. 

Police identified the deceased as V. Sankar, 30, of Perambur in Chennai, and V. Vijay, 30, and M. Sakthi, 21, both of Sannasinallur in Ariyalur district. The three were in the car that was being driven by Sakthi.

Police sources said the car was on its way to Sannasinallur village from Kerala when the vehicle and the lorry transporting iron rods from Vijayawada to Karur collided head-on. The occupants of the car and the driver were killed on the spot in the impact of the collision. The lorry driver, Jalil of Khammam in Telangana, has been named as the accused. Perambalur Rural Police have registered a case.
