For the first time this summer, temperatures crossed the 40° Celsius mark in parts of Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli districts on Wednesday (May 27, 2026), making it the hottest day of the season so far. Though the sky remained mostly cloudy in the day, high humidity along with soaring temperatures left residents exhausted across the region.

According to data from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Andhra Pradesh (DESAP), Akkireddipalem in Pendurthi recorded the highest temperature in Visakhapatnam district at 40.14°Celsius around 4 p.m., followed closely by Simhachalam, which touched 40° Celsius.

Urban parts of Visakhapatnam city also recorded high temperatures, with Gajuwaka registering 38° Celsius, Gangavaram 37° Celsius, Anandapuram 37° Celsius and Padmanabham 37.4° Celsius. Coastal localities such as Maharanipeta and Arilova recorded around 36° Celsius, and humidity remained high, making the weather oppressive.

In Anakapalli district, Chuchukonda in Munagapaka mandal recorded the highest temperature at 40.79° Celsius. Devarapalli registered 40.61° Celsius, while Sabbavaram recorded 40.60° Celsius. The temperature in S. Rayavaram touched 40.4° Celsius, and Narsingaballi in Kasimkota mandal recorded 40.14° Celsius.

Across the district, maximum temperatures ranged between 38° Celsius to 40° Celsius, with mandals such as—Narsipatnam, Kasimkota, Payakaraopeta, Makavarapalem, Nakkapalli, Cheedikada, Yelamanchili, Anakapalli Rural, Butchayyapeta, Chodavaram and Rolugunta all reporting intense heat.

The impact of the high temperatures was visible on the streets, as residents stayed indoors during the afternoon. However, those who had to step out—particularly two-wheeler riders and outdoor workers, bore the brunt of the heatwave-like conditions.
