With the formation of the full Ministry of second National Democratic Alliance government headed by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy’s All India N R Congress in Puducherry getting delayed, BJP leader and newly-appointed Minister A. Namassivayam on Friday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi.
Mr. Namassivayam, who left to the national capital on Thursday, had also met BJP president Nitin Nabin, Union Minister and party’s election in-charge for the Union Territory Mansukh Mandaviya and BJP national general secretary (organisation) B. L. Santhosh.
After the NDA retained power in the 2026 Assembly elections in Puducherry, the swearing-in of Chief Minister and two Ministers had only taken place since the announcements of results on May 4. Mr. Rangasamy had taken oath along with Mr. Namassivayam and Malladi Krishna Rao, belonging to the AINRC party on May 13 leaving the expansion of the Cabinet to another date.
“My visit to Delhi was just to thank our leaders for the support extended during the elections. I will also discuss with Central Ministers the development and welfare needs of the Union Territory,” he told The Hindu.
Though he termed the visit to New Delhi as a routine affair, sources in party informed that Mr. Namassivayam had briefed the leaders about the political situation post-Assembly elections in the Union Territory.
The source said that Mr. Namassivayam had sought appointments with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and was likely to call on Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday.
Sources also added that Mr. Mandivya was likely to visit Puducherry next week to hold further talks with Mr. Rangasamy on Ministry formation. The BJP was likely to get one more berth in the Cabinet and Speaker’s post like in the previous tenure of the NDA government.
Denies reports on nominated MLAs
Speaking to reporters at the party office here on Friday, BJP spokesperson A. Arul Murugan denied reports about the appointment of three party members as nominated legislators in the Puducherry Assembly. “The Ministry of Home Affairs has not appointed any of our leaders as nominated MLAs. All the reports appearing are far from truth,” he said.
