With the inauguration date of the Bhogapuram International Airport approaching next month, the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA) has accelerated its efforts to ensure seamless road connectivity.

Metropolitan Commissioner N. Tej Bharath, during a review meeting held at the VMRDA office on Tuesday, directed officials to ensure that the construction of all key master plan roads leading to the airport are completed by June 25, 2026. The meeting was attended by representatives from the planning, engineering, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC), National Highways, Roads and Buildings departments, and GMR.

Stressing the importance of accessibility, Mr. Bharath instructed officials to prioritise the development and improvement of major junctions connecting to the National Highways. He further emphasised the need to install clear directional signboards along the routes to ensure that air travelers reach the airport without inconvenience.

“A clear roadmap should be prepared to provide faster access to the airport,” the Commissioner said, adding that the information must be disseminated to the public to ensure that both city residents and outstation visitors can navigate the routes easily.

During the session, Mr. Bharath reviewed the status of ongoing road works in detail and directed the engineering teams to adhere strictly to the stipulated timelines to ensure the infrastructure is ready for public use ahead of the airport’s launch.

The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner Datla Keerthi, chief engineer Vinay Kumar, OSD Krishna Naik, superintending engineers Madhusudana Rao and Rambabu, chief planning officer Divya Latha, and executive engineers Sudheer, Durga Prasad, and Ramaraju.
