The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Coimbatore Branch Office, organised here on April 30, 2026 (Thursday) a technical discussion on the Indian Standards for safety of toys.
The programme dealt on safety aspects related to mechanical and physical properties (Fifth Revision) and saw the participation of 20 toy manufacturers, industry stakeholders, and consumers. The aim was to create awareness on the latest revision of the standard and to facilitate a better understanding of compliance requirements.
K Ramesh, Director and Head, BIS Coimbatore Branch Office, emphasised the importance of mandatory certification and awareness of the standards and efforts of the BIS in creating awareness among consumers and stakeholders to ensure the availability of quality and safe products in the market. He also advised participants to actively support the BIS by sharing information regarding the circulation of non-ISI marked toys, thereby contributing to strengthening market surveillance and consumer protection.
