Around 320 metric tonnes of waste generated on Chitra Pournami were removed from Tiruvannamalai town during a two-day mass cleaning drive by the Tiruvannamalai Corporation and District Rural Development Agency (DRDA).
Officials of Tiruvannamalai Corporation said that a large workforce of 2,150 sanitary staff, who are mostly women workers, were roped for the exercise, which was completed on Saturday, a day after Chitra Pournami festival.
