Widespread rainfall continued across the district on Friday, offering much-needed relief to residents who had been enduring scorching heat, sultry weather, and high humidity over the past few weeks. The sudden change in weather brought down temperatures considerably and provided respite to people in both urban and rural areas.
Rain that began during the evening hours continued for several hours, leading to water stagnation on many roads in the city and suburban areas. The unexpected downpour caught several motorists off guard, forcing many of them to take shelter at petrol bunks, bus stops and other covered spaces across the city. Traffic movement was affected on several stretches due to poor visibility and waterlogging. Only after the rain subsided around 9 p.m. did motorists resume their journeys to reach their destinations.
In the hill regions, heavy rain continued to affect the movement of people and vehicles, particularly in Thalavadi and Hasanur areas, where roads turned slippery and visibility remained poor.
The district recorded an average rainfall of 117.20 mm. Elandakuttai Medu received the highest rainfall of 31 mm, followed by Nambiyur with 24 mm, Erode city with 16.60 mm. and Kodumudi with 15.80 mm.
